OCCURRENCE AND VARIATION OF MICROFLORA IN MUSHROOM |

| Abstract:
One of the easiest methods of converting organic wastes is through the making of compost and one of the most significant way of transforming compost into a useful end product is found in the mushroom industry. This study was based on more than one hundred samples collected from different piles and stacks of mushroom compost in phase I as well as peak heating and conditioning phase II. The total number of actinomycetes, bacteria and fungi were counted. Considerable attention was paid to the study of mycoflora, especially thermophilic fungi, since they play an important role in any composting process. The number of mycoflora was determined and they were categorized in different groups. Among the mesophilic, thermotolerant and thermophilic fungi occurring in shallow and deep layers of mushroom compost some maintained their presence throughout the composting process, whereas others did not. The decline in microbial population was observed at 4th and 5th turns of compost due to decrease the amount of nitrogen. | |
