Abstract:
The progenies of self and reciprocal crossing of resistant ‘PEKcougel’ and susceptible ‘Dukat’ to crown gall disease were tested.
Disease incidence in ‘PEKcougel’ self-crossing progenies was significantly smaller than other progenies, DxD, PxD and DxP. However, the continuous variation of disease incidence in all of the progenies indicated that the resistance against crown gall disease was multigenic.
The tumor size of the progenies of PxP, DxD, PxD and DxP was 3.71, 4.73, 3.62 and 4.55 mm x mm respectively, and there was no significant difference for tumor size among the progenies.
While susceptible ‘Dukat’ developed tumors up to 3.62 mm x mm, some of the S1 and F1 progenies formed even larger tumors, including resistant ’PEKcougel’ self-crossing progenies.
Continuous tumor size of S1 and F1 revealed that the resistance to tumor development was a complex trait.
There was no relation between disease incidence and tumor size in the progenies of S1, however, in the F1 progenies significant relation was seen.
