Abstract:
Campanula portenschlagiana Roem and Schult germplasm was evaluated horticulturally and using a molecular marker.
Flowering of C. portenschlagiana collected in the United States (CPC) was accelerated by 16-hour long day (LD) photoperiod at 7.5oC. However, flowering of C. portenschlagiana collected from Japan (CPJ) was not affected by LD at 7.5oC. ). CPC and CPJ were grouped closely when polymorphic RAPD bands were analyzed.
Seedlings of C. portenschlagiana from Germany (CPG) were grouped distantly from CPJ and CPC and were significantly different in growth habit.
The results of greenhouse forcing and randomly amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) analysis, species and cultivars should be characterized and identified morphologically and using molecular markers.
