ISHS Acta Horticulturae 546: International Symposium on Molecular Markers for Characterizing Genotypes and Identifying Cultivars in Horticulture

IDENTIFICATION OF APRICOT (Prunus armeniaca L.) GENOTYPES USING MICROSATELLITE AND RAPD MARKERS

Author:   J.I. Hormaza
Keywords:   cultivar characterisation, molecular markers, fruit breeding, homonymies, synonymies.
Abstract:
New methods based on DNA analysis can be useful to complement the identification of fruit tree cultivars made usually through phenotypic observations. In this work, RAPD and microsatellite markers have been used to identify and characterize 50 apricot cultivars originating from different geographic areas. These studies have been complemented with the comparison of different putatively cloned accessions of a single cultivar, ‘Moniquí’. The results obtained enabled us to discriminate between different cultivars and indicate the presence of homonyms.
