ISHS Acta Horticulturae 546: International Symposium on Molecular Markers for Characterizing Genotypes and Identifying Cultivars in Horticulture

EVALUATION OF GENETIC DIVERSITY IN A GARDEN BEET GERMPLASM COLLECTION USING RAPD TECHNIQUE

Keywords:   Beta vulgaris L., biodiversity, gene bank, molecular markers, PCR
Abstract:
In the present study genetic diversity of 30 accessions held by the BAZ Gene Bank (Braunschweig, Germany) and five Polish cultivars belonging to the Garden Beet Group was assessed. Cluster analysis revealed that most of the landraces are genetically distinct from modern garden beet cultivars. Also the most distinct cultivars were identified. Individual plants of six accessions were studied with regard to their uniformity. A high variation within each of these accessions was observed.
