Abstract:
Dogroses show matroclinal inheritance for morphological and DNA-based (RAPD) characters and very low levels of within-seedling family variation.
These results can be explained mainly by the peculiar meiosis but selfing and apomixis may also be involved, especially in R. rubiginosa. Comparisons with DNA data for other taxa suggest that populations of R. dumalis are medium well-separated, whereas R. rubiginosa shows very strong population differentiation.
