SOILLESS TECHNIQUE APPLIED TO PROTEACEAE CULTIVATION

Author:   M. Montarone
Keywords:   soilless, substrate, nutrient solution, solubility, compatibility, mineral elements, pH, conductivity
Abstract:
Soilless cultivation worries or even frightens many growers, but in fact it only requires different technical skills which are easy to acquire. This paper explains the different elements involved in the soilless technique: container, substrate and solution. A nutrient solution was defined that supplied 14 mg/L of N, 9.3 mg/L of P, 47 mg/L of K, 16 mg/L of Ca, and 8.5 mg/L of Mg. The EC should be maintained at 750 – 1000 microsiemens (800 to 1000 mg dissolved salts) and the pH at 4.5-6.0.
