Abstract:
Ten Proteaceae cultivars, five of the genus Protea (P. `Cardinal´, P. `Carnival II´, P. `Niobe´, P. `Pink Velvet´ and P. `Sheila´), three of Leucospermum (L. `Rigoletto´, L. `Rigoletto Yellow´ and L. `Succession II´) and two of Leucadendron (L. `Chameleon´ and L. `Rosette´) planted in the experimental fields of the Agricultural College (La Laguna University) in 1998 are being evaluated.
Leucospermum cultivars are performing well. At the end of autumn 1999, L. `Rigoletto¨ and L. `Succession II´ developed flower buds on not-marketable short stems. Of the two Leucadendron cultivars, L. `Chameleon´ has shown a vigorous but twisted growth. Only some plants of L. `Rosette´ are growing well, the rest show an anomalous growth. Among Protea cultivars, P. `Cardinal´ and P. `Carnival II´ are performing relatively well. P. `Niobe´, P. `Pink Velvet´ and P. `Sheila´ are suffering chlorosis and other nutritional disorders.
