Abstract:
Codling moth is a major insect pest of walnut, Juglans regia in California. The insect growth regulators ConfirmŽ and DimilinŽ have the potential for codling moth control without disruption of biological control. In test orchards, ConfirmŽ, DimilinŽ, grower’s standard (LorsbanŽ plus AsanaŽ) and a modified check treatment (AsanaŽ in the 1B flight) were tested in 1995, and ConfirmŽ and LorsbanŽ were compared in 1998. The untreated checks suffered significantly more damage from first flight codling moth in both years than did the grower standard, ConfirmŽ or DimilinŽ treatments. ConfirmŽ and DimilinŽ can be used effectively where codling moth populations are moderate, and where preservation of beneficials is very important.
