Abstract:
We describe a rapid method to separate and quantify -carotene and geometric isomers of lycopene from tomato fruit.
Carotenoids from extracts of tomato fruit are separated and eluted, using a reversed-phase HPLC with a C30 column and a mobile phase of 40% MTBE, 50% MeOH, and 10% EtOAc.
With this system, we can achieve sharp resolution of cis and trans isomers of lycopene within approximately 25 min instead of the longer, more complex gradient procedures required by previously described methods.
