Abstract:
Flowering of Ornithogalum dubium and O. arabicum as by influenced temperature during bulb storage and forcing and by plant growth regulators were studied. Flowering of O. arabicum and O. dubium were accelerated when bulbs were stored at 10, 15, and 20oC for 4 to 6 weeks as compared to control (25 oC). Flowering of O. dubium was accelerated when plants were forced at 19/13 oC as compared to those forced at 13/10 oC. The number of flowers in O. dubium was decreased when bulb storage duration was increased from 2 to 6 weeks, regardless of temperature. However, the numbers in O. arabicum was not affected. Flowering of O. dubium was accelerated when bulbs were dipped in 100 mg∙L-1 GA3 and Promalin solution. Flowering of O. arabicum was not influenced by Promalin. When Promalin at 50 mg∙L-1 and GA3 at 200 and 400 mg∙L-1 was sprayed, flowering of O. dubium was accelerated as compared to control. The number of flowers in O. dubium was reduced by Promalin treatment that accelerated flowering. In case of O. arabicum, Promalin treatment at all concentrations promoted flowering while it did not reduce the number of flowers.
