Abstract:
Adult Limonium gmelinii plants were maintained at 24 °C for five months then subjected to temperatures of 6 or 24 °C for 5 weeks (12 h photoperiod; PPFD = 65 µmol sec-1 m-2). At the end of the temperature treatments, all the plants were sprayed with 0, 250, 500 mg·l-1 GA3 and held at 24 °C in the same photoperiodic conditions for 160 days.
The low temperature treatment induced flowering within 110-120 days while none of the plants maintained constantly at 24 °C reached flowering throughout the experiment.
GA3 spray (500 mg·l-1) accelerated bolting and flowering of the plants previously subjected to 6 °C for 5 weeks.
Mean time to flowering decrease was related to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd flower and to an increase of the number of flowering stems observed in such plants.
