Abstract:
The Centre for Australian Plants aims to develop primarily indigenous, but also non-indigenous, plants for Australia’s commercial benefit and also to improve the conservation of the Australian flora.
Western Australia is one of the world’s centres of floral diversity with over 12,000 species of higher plants and we hope to both exploit this and preserve it for the future.
The main focus is selection, breeding and release of new varieties for cut flower and pot plant production.
Waxflower (Chamelaucium) is the main crop and with others including Boronia, Geleznowia, Leucodendron and Verticordia. Collaboration between industry, research, education and conservation is the basis of our success.
