Abstract:
The flower industry in Northeast Asia (Japan, Korea, China and Taiwan) has been developing rapidly over the past ten years. However the introduction and breeding of new ornamental crops has been mainly centered in Japan. Introductions have been developed by commercial seed companies and personal breeders. Wine, beer, steel, cement, tobacco and chemical companies are active in introducing and breeding new ornamental crops in Japan. The activity of these companies has resulted in the introduction many new ornamental crops in the flower industry on a world-wide basis. This paper will discuss the flower industry in Northeast Asia and will also discuss new cultivating systems, year-round production of Eustoma and rose arching which was developed in Japan.
