Abstract:
Ladies and Gentlemen,
Propagation is normally the start or beginning of a crop.
For all branches of horticulture this process is most important and really in many instances horticulture can be characterized by its use of a great variation in methods of propagation from the simplest layering to grafting, from broadcast of seeds to embryoculture or callus tissue in vitro.
Section for Ornamental Plants of I.S.H.S. had originally planned a symposium titled "Propagation" to be held in 1976 in Denmark, but it was decided at the congress meeting in Warsaw to change it to 1975 due to other activities in 1976.
The time for organizing this symposium was therefore rather short and I regret that many people for this reason were unable to attend.
Propagation is a very broad field and the Section felt that the emphasis should be laid on arboriculture.
The Danish Organizing Committee extends you a heartily welcome to the Symposium.
We have selected a boarding school for the meeting place in order to have close contact during the whole stay.
The program is not overloaded and there should be ample time for discussion and a number of excursions will give you as participants a crossview of propagation methods used in Danish nurseries.
Our past section chairman J.G. van Onsem will open our Symposium on behalf of I.S.H.S.
Welcome to Krogerup!
Asger Klougart
Mr.
Chairman, Ladies and Gentlemen,
On behalf of Section Ornamental Plants it gives me great pleasure to welcome you here in Denmark.
We are happy that Denmark was willing to undertake the Symposium with such a short preparation time, but I am sure you will find the stay here most enjoyable and giving.
J.G. van Onsem
