Abstract:
At the beginning of our cherry resistance breeding for leaf spot resistance, the first step was to look for and to obtain the germplasm inheriting the resistance.
After finding the sour cherry cultivar ‘Csengödi’ we established the heritability of the resistance by test crossings.
Based on these test crossings the following varieties were used as female parents: ‘Érdi bötermö’, ‘Meteor korai’, ‘Érdi nagygyümölcsü’, ‘M 221’, ‘III-43/60’, ‘IV-2/152’, and as male parents: ‘Csengödi’, ‘Érdi bötermö’, ‘Meteor korai’ and ‘IV-2/152’. According to the success of artificial infection 30 resistant seedlings in 1998 and 5 seedlings in 1999 were completely free of infection.
Among the same progenies 13 ones had very low infection level.
These seedlings seem to be tolerant.
The economic value will be measured in the orchard at the beginning of bearing, and both the quality of fruits and the parameters of cultivation will be improved by crossings if necessary.
