Abstract:
Japanese quince (Chaenomeles japonica), a dwarf shrub belonging to Maloideae within Rosaceae, is investigated as a possible multipurpose crop for the production of juice, flavour, and fruit fibre.
Research is co-ordinated as links in a chain from plant to finished product including crop optimisation, chemical characterisation, processing, and marketing.
Here we present preliminary results obtained when evaluating Chaenomeles genetic resources.
