FIELD EVALUATION OF SUSCEPTIBILITY TO BLUMERIELLA JAAPI OF SELECTED SOUR CHERRY CULTIVARS

Authors:   G. Hodun, Z.S. Grzyb

Abstract:
Study on susceptibility of sour cherry cultivars to leaf spot (Blumeriella jaapi Rehm) was done at the field collection of the Research Institute of Pomology and Floriculture at Skierniewice, Poland in 1997. Over 100 genotypes (cultivars and local types) of sour cherry were evaluated. Results obtained from this study showed that most of the investigated genotypes were very susceptible to leaf spot. Sour cherry trees susceptible to B. jaapi lost all or most of leaves. Four cultivars: 'Melitopolska', 'Fortuna', 'Minister Podbielski', 'Zagoriewskaja' and three local Polish types: 'Jareniówka', 'Wloszkowice' and 'Wróble' had very low susceptability to B. jaapi. These genotypes seem to be very valuable material for breeding programs.
