SIMPLE METHOD FOR SPRINKLER IRRIGATION CONTROL OF VEGETABLES ON THE BASE OF RAINFALL MEASUREMENT

Abstract:
The proposed method for a control of sprinkler irrigation in field vegetable growing specifies the range and the way of necessary calculations before as well as during the irrigation season. Climatic indicators of water deficiency with a probability of occurence of P = 10 % (or 20 %) for a given locality are calculated before the irrigation period. On this base the effective worktime of the sprinkling machine during twenty four hours is determined. Next, the worktime of the sprinkling machine on a single position is calculated relative to the single water application volume (from 15 to 40 mm according to the soil type and rooting depth). In the season, the operation of the sprinkling machine is conducted cyclically during the periods of increasing water needs of the vegetable plants in accordance with the above calculations. The operation of the sprinkling machine is interrupted only in case of rainfall event. The duration of these breaks is specified by the method. The elaborated method of sprinkler irrigation control is simplier than the others because only the rainfall measurements are needed. At the same time, water is saved while covering completely the water demands of the vegetable crops.
