Abstract:
A greenhouse trial was carried out to study the effect of two arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) fungal inocula with different infectivity on nursery stock production of Taxus baccata L. and also to check AM protection against Phytophthora cinnamomi. The inoculation with either AM fungus, Acaulospora scrobiculata or G. deserticola, significantly increased weight of shoots and roots respect to the control, although it could not protect the yew against the pathogen.
No differences were found between AM inoculation treatments in spite of the diferent infectivity of the inocula.
It is concluded that inoculation with effective AM fungi can significantly improve nursery stock production of the yew.
