Abstract:
Greenhouses are used to provide and maintain a desired environment that will result in optimum crop production or maximum profit.
Over the years they became an industry of commercial plant production with a turnover of several billion of dollars.
At present majority of the women population contributing in the productive activity like agriculture of the nation.
Their contribution in socio-economic development is now being recognised.
Present study is an attempt to precisely assess the appropriate training need of the rural women for better management of microclimate in greenhouses.
About sixteen main areas in which rural women needed training were finalized for the study in consultation with village development officer and subject matter specialist in agricultural extension education.
From the assessment it is observed that the rural women needed training most and which ranked first was the control system for irrigation, fertilization and microclimate.
Second area which needed training suggested by rural women was structure, ventilation and cooling systems.
Similarly in the areas a system for CO2 enrichment, covering material, shading system and material handling equipments, refrigeration, a heating system, fans for air circulation, artificial lighting, kitchen gardening, plan layout and operating cost in which the training needed were falls under essential category and the area in which the training not required suggested by the rural women were crops, growing beds or benches and locations.
Further it is also observed that the education and land holding had positive and significant correlation with training needs in selected areas.
Age had significantly negative correlation with training needs.
Present study implies that the Maharashtrian rural women needs training in the control systems for irrigation, fertilization and microclimate and further in structure, ventilation and cooling systems on priority.
