GREENHOUSE NATURAL VENTILATION BY WIND FORCES

Authors:   R. Haxaire, T. Boulard, M. Mermier
Keywords:   Greenhouse, forced convection, ventilation, air velocity, temperature, humidity
Abstract:
We considered air flows and temperature and humidity patterns induced by wind forces in a twin-span greenhouse equipped with continuous roof-openings. With a wind parallel to the vent openings, flow and climate measurements were performed using sonic anemometry and krypton hygrometers. One observed incoming air streams through the leeward section of the openings. This air current flows upstream with respect to the outside wind and sweeps over the greenhouse space and the crop, before escaping through the windward section of the openings. These forced convective patterns were also numerically simulated by means of a Computational Fluid Dynamic code (CFD 2000®). It was found that the distributions of the simulated air velocity and temperature were generally in good agreement with the experimental results.
