MEASUREMENT AND MODELING OF RADIATIVE HETEROGENEITY IN A GREENHOUSE TUNNEL

Authors:   S. Wang, T. Boulard
Keywords:   Greenhouse tunnel, radiative heterogeneity, computer model, simulation
Abstract:
Radiative heterogeneity in greenhouses has a large effect on variability in crop activity, particularly transpiration and photosynthesis. A computer model was developed to predict the solar radiation distribution within a greenhouse, based on path of the sun, the greenhouse geometry, the transmittance and sky conditions. Experiments for model validation were conducted in an 8 m wide tunnel with an East-West orientation and situated in the region of Avignon in the south of France. Measured and simulated data were in good agreement both under cloudy and clear skies. The validated model was used to simulate the solar radiation distribution at soil level in various tunnel types for different periods of the year.
