Abstract:
In field study conducted in 1992–1996 the effect of sowing date, method of transplant production and rate of nitrogen fertilization in early celeriac cultivation were investigated. In the first experiment the seeds of celeriac cv Mentor were sown in greenhouse on 20 January, 5 and 20 February. The seedlings were pricked into plastic boxes (in spacing 5×5 cm and 7×7 cm) or into 7 cm in diameter plastic pots. The transplants were planted into open field at the end of April. In second experiment eleven weeks old transplants were planted at end of April into field, where nitrogen was supplied as a preplant fertilization at the rates 50, 100, 150, 200 and 250 kg N/ha or divided onto preplant and top dressing nutrition 50+50, 100+100, 150+100 and 200+100 kg N/ha. The favourable method of transplant production for early harvest appeared to be the celeriac seed sowing on February 10–20 and after one month pricking the seedlings into plastic boxes in spacing 5×5 cm. The most efficient method of celeriac fertilization for early crop appeared to be the preplant application of 100 kg N/ha.
