NUTRIENT STATUS AND YIELD OF CUCUMBERS AS INFLUENCED BY SUPERABSORBENT FERTILIZER BLENDS

Authors:   E. Szwonek, O. Nowosielski
Keywords:   fertilizer, nutrient blends
Abstract:
The new method of nutrient carriers applied in the soil was the subject of a field trial. There were mineral-organic fertilizer blends prepared, which were broadcasted on the experimental plots or applied along the rows. Seeds were sown together with nutrient carriers (SM) when locally applied. Into some of the blends superabsorbents such as Alcosorb 400 (United Colloids U.K), Stockosorb (Stockhausen D), KM Acrygel (ICSOBlacliownia PI) were added. The effect of these blends on the nutrient status of plants and yield of cucumbers were compared to the mineral fertilizer 15-15-15 Polifoska use as broadcasted on the plots (often recommended dose i.e. 1000 kg/ha). The share of mineral fertilizer part in the above mentioned blends was 15 times lower relatively to the dose of 15-15-15 Polifoska broadcasted in the check. Plots with Alcosorb 400 added into the sown mixture (SM) had yield of cucumbers similar to plots treated with traditionally applied dose of mineral fertilizer.
