Abstract:
This study was conducted to determine the effects of three sowing dates in two seasons on harvesting date and yield of four different pole (climbing) bean varieties and seven different dwarf (bush) bean varieties during 1994 and 1995 growing seasons in Tokat, Turkey. Harvesting date and yield (t/ha) of the pole bean and dwarf bean varieties were affected significantly by the sowing dates, seasons and the years. Differences among the bean varieties were also significant. There were some apparent interactions. According to the results, the highest yield of the pole bean varieties obtained were from 1994 (33.57 t/ha), spring season (31.00 t/ha), first sowing dates (34.44 t/ha), Alman AyÞe and Çalý varieties (32.22 t/ha and 32.05 t/ha respectively). Similarly results showed that the highest yield of the dwarf bean varieties were obtained from 1994 (23.57 t/ha), autumn season (18.14 t/ha), the first sowing date (23.24 t/ha), Yalova 5 and Yalova 17 varieties (20.62 t/ha and 20.93 t/ha respectively). Harvesting date and the yield were increased by earlier sowing date. Two week earliness and two times higher yield were obtained compared to traditional cultivation practices during spring season in both 1994 and 1995. Harvesting time was elongated two weeks and the yield was two times higher than traditional cultivation practices during autumn season in both 1994 and 1995 years.
