ISHS Acta Horticulturae 533: VIII International Symposium on Timing Field Production in Vegetable Crops

TIME OF HARVEST AND QUANTITATIVE MORPHOLOGY OF CARROT PLANTS INFLUENCED BY PLANT DENSITY AND IRRADIATION LEVEL

Authors:   S. Klug-Andersen, A. Nielsen
Keywords:   Carrot, timing, regression model, Gdays, Lsum, Tsum
Abstract:
Two field experiments with three plant density levels, three irradiation levels and two relative lengths of periods with reduced irradiation level resulted in development of a weight specific, deterministic model relating chronological growth period to relative irradiation level and plant density and to another deterministic model relating average tap root fresh weight to temperature sum and irradiation sum per plant. The models plus the direct results of the experiments confirm the overall similarity and equality of growth reducing and partly of morphology modificating effects obtained by reducing available PAR radiation per plant - no matter whether this is obtained by reducing irradiation level per area (shading) or by reducing available area per plant (increasing plant density).
