Abstract:
The effect of sweet pepper seedlings of various quality on yield, plant height and characters of sweet pepper fruit was studied in a greenhouse and experimental field.
The sweet pepper seedlings were produced in containers according to “Speedling” system and according to a conventional method boxes.
Ten various substrates were studied: two types of peat, compost, mixture of peat and compost and mixture of compost, peat and enriched zeolites.
The highest yield, plant height and fruit size were achieved with quality seedling, i.e., with seedlings that were produced on a mixture of substrate of 2/3 of peat from Grahovo and 1/3 of enriched zeolite.
The seedlings produced in containers gave higher yield and fruits with better characters than the seedlings produced according to standard method.
Sweet pepper seedlings produced on the substrate of 2/3 of peat from Grahovo and 1/3 of enriched zeolite had average height of 21,6 cm, 6,5 leaves, above ground mass and 16,3 % dry matter.
With the same seedlings we obtained average yield of 24,1 t/ha, plant height 44,4 cm, average fruit mass of 97,1 g and 5,7 % dry matter of fruits.
