Abstract:
In order to determine the toxic effects of HNO2 and NH3 solutions on Phytophthora capsici mycelium growth, experiments were carried out in vitro under differents concentrations (from 0 to 106 μM HNO2 and from 0 to 471 μM NH3) and treatment duration (6, 15 and 24 h). Cumulated growth recorded 3 days after HNO2 treatment showed a lethal effect at 96 μM for 6 h of treatment, at 42 μM for 15 h, and between 21 and 42 μM with 24 h of treatment. In contrast, NH3 solutions from 0 to 471 μM had no lethal effect on mycelium growth, though concentrations from 235 μM had inhibitory effects on growth.
