Abstract:
The efficacy of a six week solarization period, alone or in combination with reduced rates of 1.3 D (50 and 100 1/ha), Dazomet (125 and 250 kg/ha) and Methyl bromide (10 and 20 g/m2) was compared with that of 1,3 D 200 1/ha, Dazomet 500 kg/ha and Methyl bromide 60 g/m2 alone in the control of the root-knot nematode Meloidogyne incognita on carrot in Italy.
Soil solarization alone or combined with low rates of the nematicides effectively controlled both nematodes and weeds.
Very effective nematode control was also obtained with Methyl bromide or 1,3 D alone.
All treatments significantly increased marketable carrot yield compared to non treated plots.
