Abstract:
The effectiveness of soil solarization with different plastic films as a control of corky-root (Pyrenochaeta lycopersici) and root-knot (Meloidogyne spp.) on tomato plants was tested during summer 1999 inside a greenhouse located in South-East Sicily, Italy.
The 35 μm thick EVA film and the 50 μm thick green coextruded EVA-EVA film proved to be more effective than the 45 μm thick black coextruded EVA-PE film in controlling corky root and root-knot symptoms detected on cultivated plants.
These preliminary results encourage the use of the green coextruded film which can also be left as a post plant mulch.
