Abstract:
On three sites the machine raised temperatures to 100°C in the top 10 cm, with temperature increase reducing with increasing depth.
With one exception five soil-borne pathogens and native Pythium species were killed to a depth of 10 cm.
On light soil the effective kill depth increased to 15 cm.
At some sites weed control reached 95–98 % on bed surfaces and the majority of weeds recorded after treatment were wind-blown species.
