Abstract:
Application of different alternative plant protection methods and ecological products are necessary to protect the environment.
The nematicidal potential of some plant extracts was evaluated for control of root knot nematodes on tomatoes planted in pots during the period of 1997/1998. We used two varieties of tomatos - Trapesitza and Miljana.Extracts of Ocimum basilicum, Datura stramonium, Tagetes patula, Allium sativa, Allium cepa were tested.
Leaf and root extracts were prepared and applied in different concentrations - 1% and 0.5% by pre-planting and 4 times after planting.
Pre-planting treatments of extracts were more effective than post planting treatments.
The number of galls varied according to the concentration of plant extracts.
Leaf extracts from Ocinum basilicum and Datura stramonium were more effective than root extracts of some other plants.
Leaf extracts from Ocinum basilicum and Datura stramonium and leaf extracts from Tagetes patula, Allium sativa and Allium cepa were very effective against root knot nematodes.
The number of galls after 30 days of planting was between 2 and 5 per plant, while it was 56 for the control plants.
