Abstract:
Aguaje (Mauritia flexuosa) is one of the most important palms of the Peruvian Amazon and grows in swamps forming big monotypic and dense forests.
Economic, social and ecological value of this native food are analysed and discussed.
Botany, ecological requirements, cultural practices and harvest management are described.
Market possibilities, traditional uses and fruit composition are also included.
