ISHS Acta Horticulturae 531: II ISHS Conference on Fruit Production in the Tropics and Subtropics

PHOTOSYNTHESIS OF APPLE TREES AT HIGHER ALTITUDES IN THE TROPICS

Authors:   F. Casierra, G. Ebert, P. Lüdders
Keywords:   CO2/H2O gas exchange, cultivars
Abstract:
Tropical highlands provide appropriate conditions for a successful production of apples. In the district of Boyacá (Columbia) there several apple orchards exist at altitudes higher than 2000 m. Due to a lack of cold periods, cultivars with low-chilling requirements such as 'Anna' are recommended. The CO2/H2O gas exchange measurements were carried out in two different orchards located at Silvania (altitude: 2215m) and Subachoque (altitude: 2615m).
