Abstract:
Modern methods suitable for characterising, identifying and detecting bacteria associated with plants (pathogens, contaminants, epiphytes, endophytes) are reviewed.
Preferred methods for characterisation and identification include fatty acid profiles and repetitive sequence - PCR profiles.
Preferred methods for detection include well established methods such as isolation and immunofluorescence and novel PCR assays based on fluorigenic probes.
