MYCORRHIZAL INOCULATION OF MICROPROPAGATED STRAWBERRY - CASE STUDIES ON MINERAL SOIL AND A MINED PEAT BOG

Abstract:
The effects of inoculation of micropropagated strawberries ‘Senga Sengana’ and ‘Jonsok’ with arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi at the beginning of weaning were studied in an experiment on mineral soil and mined peat soil, respectively. Despite the same sizes of inoculated and uninoculated plants at the end of weaning, AMF inoculation increased fruit yields especially on mineral soil. The experiment conducted on a mined peat bog showed less pronounced positive effects of AMF. The peat substrate caused slower spread of AMF colonization to newly formed roots. It is concluded that AMF has the potential of being included as a natural part of the micropropagation system.
