Abstract:
At the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, between September 1972 and August 1973, two fungicides - Caocobre Sandoz (Copper oxide) and Dithane M.45 (mancozeb) were equally effective for the control of Tomato leaf blotch caused by Septorialycopersici (Speg). Concentrations of 1 g/1 were as effective as those of 4 g/1, but weekly applications proved significantly superior to applications every 2 or 4 weeks.
At high humidity, tomato seedlings in nursery beds in the open field were attacked at the 4–6 week stage, but in drier weather they remained healthy until transplanted (4–6 weeks). Early blight (Alternoria spp.) and late blight (Phytophthora spp.) attacks were negligible - the main cause of Tomato leaf spot disease being Septoria spp.
