Abstract:
Katamfe (Thaumatococcus daniellii Benth.) is a common plant which grows wild in forest clearings in many parts of Ghana; its leafs are used for wrapping food and meat.
Adansi (1970) discussed the potential of its fruits as a sweetener and proposed that the plants should be cultivated, as collection of seeds from wild plants may not be dependable.
Results are described of attempts at cultivation made at the Plant Introduction and Exploration Section of the Crops Research Institute at Bunso.
Plants raised from seeds and suckers both fruited with 40–42 months.
