| Abstract:
Three types of suckers, sword, maiden and bit, of three varying sizes, small, medium and large of the local banana cultivar Alata Kwadu were compared during a 23-weeks growth. Sword suckers proved the most suitable type of planting materials, emerging early, giving the largest leaf area and the most vigorous plant crop. They were, however, poor in suckering themselves, and thus inferior to maiden for multiplying new clonal materials. Bits were very poor in growth and development, and should not be used. Large suckers of all types were generally better planting materials than medium and small ones. | |
