Abstract:
In two experiments on cocoa, leaf number and seedling height increased linearly over the nursery period, but the influence of bean size was apparent in only one experiment.
Total dry matter per seedling increased linearly over the same period and was influenced by bean size.
The proportion of total dry matter partitioned into the leaves, stems and roots changed relatively little during the nursery period, but the leaves retained the major portion of the total dry matter throughout and so constituted the major sink for photosynthates.
