Abstract:
Cultivars of okra grown outdoors at different times of the year in Nsukka, Nigeria, could be divided into two groups, depending on their response to photoperiod.
- "dry season" or short day group (critical day length of 12 ¼ hrs or less)
- "all season" or neutral group (critical day length of 12 ½ hrs or more)
A study of the cultivars under controlled environments in Newcastle upon Tyne, England, showed variability in growth and flowering time within "all season" cultivars exposed to day length/temperature interaction.
