Abstract:
Stakes of lengths up to 270 cm were used to support vines of winged beans (Psophocarpus tetragonolobus (L) DC). Stakes of 210–240 cm progessively increased vegetative matter, seed and tuber yields.
At greater lengths seed yield increased slightly, vegetative matter was not affected, but the stimulus for tuber initiation and development was not attained until the vines reached the top of supports, and started to descend.
Therefore, if the stakes are too tall this stimulus is attained comparatively late or not at all and tuber yield is decreased.
