Abstract:
Different Vitis-rootstock cultivars and clones were tested for their adaptation to a Franconian ‘Muschelkalk’ location.
The rootstock cultivar ‘SO 4’ performed exceedingly well at the Muschelkalk location Marktheidenfeld that is characterized by very calcareous soil.
The rootstock cultivar ‘Börner’ produced significantly lower yields and cannot be recommended for extremely calcareous soils in combination with Vitis vinifera cvs. ‘Rieslaner’ and ‘Silvaner’. Rootstock cultivars ‘SO 4’ and ‘5 BB’ did not reveal significant clonal differences.
Cv. ‘41 B’ and two new rootstock cultivars, bred by the LWG performed well at the Muschelkalk location.
In order to supply Franconian grape growers with profound advice, new trials with various rootstock cultivars will be made at different locations throughout the Franconian growing region.
