HERBICIDE RESISTANT TRANSGENIC PLANTS OF GRAPEVINE

Authors:   B.A. Levenko, M.A. Rubtsova
Keywords:   grapevine, genetic transformation, herbicide resistance, phosphinothricin, bar (PAT) gene
Abstract:
A method of genetic transformation of grapevine cultivars Cabernet-Sauvignon, Podarok Magaracha, Rubinovyi Magaracha, Krona 42 was developed. Inoculation of primary explants and organogenic calli by agrobacteria strain carrying NPTII gene and bar (PAT) gene conferring herbicide phosphinothricin resistance gave the possibility to obtain transgenic grape plants resistant to 20 ml/l Basta in culture medium. These plants survived the spraying by 10 ml/l herbicide after adaptation to in vivo conditions. Control plants were killed already by 3 ml/l herbicide in culture medium.
