Abstract:
Two different partial cDNA clones coding for grape pectine methyl esterase have been isolated. Samples of berries of Vitis vinifera L. cv. Ugni-Blanc have been used to study the evolution of both mRNA expression of PME1 clone and PME activity during the ripening. Results suggest that PME1 may be involved in the softening of grape berry. It could represent an early marker for veraison.
