Abstract:
This document brings to an end the 7^th International Symposium on Grapevine Genetics and Breeding. It comprises the papers and posters presented during the different sessions of the conference, and gives convincing evidence of the world-wide development of the researches in grapevine genetics and breeding, with a particular focus to genome analysis and biotechnology.

Recalling the scientific discussions and social events of this Symposium from a distance of one year and a half, we believe it was a success and closed brightly a XX^th century which generated, particularly in its second half, more progress in viticulture than the totality of the previous centuries. Therefore, we wish to express our gratitude and thanks to

all who contributed to keep the tradition of these Symposia alive,
the Office National Interprofessionnel des Vins, the Conseil Régional Languedoc-Roussillon, the Conseils Généraux of the Départements of Aude, Gard and Hérault, the Conseil Général du Département des Pyrénées-Orientales, the Caisse Régionale de Crédit Agricole du Midi as well as all others who financially supported this Symposium and helped to make it a success,
the International Society for Horticultural Science and the Office International de la Vigne et du Vin for assuming the patronage of this Symposium.

We are now looking forward to the 8^th Symposium, which will have the honour and privilege to be the first of the 3^rd Millennium.
