Abstract:
Fruit set in pecan [Carya illinoensis (Wangenh.) C. Koch] is regulated by sequential mechanisms inherent to the species.
These mechanisms include floral induction, flower initiation and maturation, pollination, germination, fertilization, and fruit development.
Variation in these basic processes occurs.
The degree of variation is altered by differential expression of the mechanisms among genotypes and by environmental conditions.
