Abstract:
This experiment was conducted in Spain (Ribera del Duero) in two training systems, head trained and vertical trellis, and with two water regimes, irrigated and non irrigated.
We study the amount of absorbed radiation and the influence that the vine geometry and the leaf area development have on the radiation absorption in the different treatments during three years.
In the same way, we analyze the relationship between amount of absorbed radiation and dry matter production, we also study the efficiency of the foliar surface in the total dry matter production.
PAR balance depends not only on the foliar development, but also on the geometry of the plant canopy.
The head trained system has a higher absorption capacity than the vertical trellis in irrigated conditions, whereas in non-irrigated conditions the vertical trellis has a better balance.
The total dry matter production depends directly on the amount of absorbed radiation, although it is not always directly proportional.
The efficiency of the external foliar surface in dry matter production depends on the water regime in the different training systems, and it is always higher in the irrigated vines than in the non-irrigated ones.
