Abstract:
Broad-leaved spignel is a perennial plant belonging to Umbelliferae family, native in most of European countries, especially under sub-continental climatic conditions.
Our work focuses on the screening of volatile and fatty oil characters in order to provide data for the exploitation and prospective domestication of this species.
Volatile oil was isolated by steam destillation from seeds collected in native populations and subsequently analyzed by the means of GC and GC-MS.
According to our results the seeds contain 2.0% volatile and 6.0% fatty oil.
The main components of the volatile oil are: butanoic acid octyl ester (41.13%) and n-octyl acetate (29.76%)
The main component of fatty oil as determined from the waste material of water steam destillation were fatty acids of C 18:1 type.
